Social Impact
At HBCU CRWNS, we believe that our impact extends far beyond the stylish, silk-infused apparel we create. We are committed to not only celebrating HBCUs but also nurturing the confidence, culture, and heritage of Black and Brown communities through our products. Our silk-lined apparel is designed to empower individuals, providing both practical and cultural benefits that support everyday lives in ways that are deeply personal.
Hair Health & Confidence: A Personal Revolution
Growing up, Kendra, an alumna of North Carolina A&T, struggled to find headwear that protected her hair. She had experienced constant breakage from the harsh friction of traditional hats. Like many Black women, Kendra’s hair is not just part of her style—it’s a part of her identity. After using the Curl CRWN, Kendra shared how her self-esteem soared as her hair health improved.
“It’s more than a hat. It’s like HBCU CRWNS sees me. I used to avoid wearing hats because I was afraid of ruining my hair, but now I wear them with pride, knowing my hair is protected. I feel more confident when I step out.” – Kendra, NCAT Alumna
Kendra’s story is not unique. Our silk-infused products are a game-changer for textured hair, helping students, alumni, and supporters protect their crowns while repping their schools with pride.
Cultural Connection & Representation
For many Black and Brown students, HBCUs are more than just colleges—they are cultural hubs where identity and heritage are celebrated. Wearing a Fitted CRWN or Lifestyle Jacket doesn’t just mean sporting a new look; it symbolizes something much deeper. Jamal, a freshman at Howard University, was struggling to find apparel that reflected his pride in his school and his heritage while also being practical for his natural hair.
“HBCU CRWNS gave me that connection I was missing. Wearing my CRWN on campus makes me feel like I’m representing more than just a school—I’m representing my culture, my hair, my roots. It’s fashion and heritage all in one.” – Jamal, Howard University Freshman
By offering culturally conscious apparel, we are giving our community something many brands have neglected: representation and functionality in everyday wear.
Mental Health & Social Impact
Hair plays an undeniable role in self-esteem and mental well-being, especially within Black communities where societal standards often do not align with natural beauty. We’ve heard countless stories of young women and men who have experienced shame or low self-esteem because their hair was misunderstood or mistreated.
Through our silk-infused products, we aim to dismantle the pressures to conform to unhealthy beauty standards. Wearing a CRWN allows our customers to embrace their natural beauty without the fear of hair damage. The mental relief that comes from not worrying about hair health, especially for students managing the stresses of college life, is immeasurable.
Economic Empowerment
Our commitment extends to economic empowerment. By sourcing products from Black-owned businesses and actively partnering with HBCUs, we keep our dollars circulating within our communities. We also aim to create opportunities for students by partnering with ambassadors and hosting on-campus events that offer valuable entrepreneurial experiences.
Join the Movement
At HBCU CRWNS, our mission is clear: We create more than just fashion—we create a movement of empowerment, cultural pride, and hair health. From preserving natural hair to fostering cultural representation and strengthening community ties, our products are an extension of the legacy of HBCUs.
